Sanders was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual assault, strong armed robbery and possession of methamphetamine.
During the assault, investigators determined that Sanders struck the victim repeatedly with a closed fist and choked her until she lost consciousness. According to the release, investigators believe that Sanders attacked the victim for over four minutes and attempted to sexually assault the victim before stealing money and leaving the scene.
Florence County Magistrate Jerry F. Rivers denied bond for Sanders due to the seriousness of the charges against him.
Sanders told Rivers that he learned while behind bars that he no longer had a job.
Rivers appointed a public defender for Sanders.
He's scheduled to appear in court in June on the charges against him.
Sanders remains behind bars at the Florence County Detention Center.
