Marketing to Daycare Providers

I was just wondering if anyone who does infant massage market to daycare providers.  Im a certified infant massage instructor and am thinking about trying this avenue.  Teaching the daycare providers how to give new born, infant and child massage.  As a former daycare provider I know how stressful the adjustment can be for the children (and sometimes the daycare provider lol).  Because these children spend several hours a day with the daycare provider this individual becomes attached with both the child and the family.  Usually they have a wonderful bond that provides a great experience for the child.With that being said.  I was wondering if anyone has ever marketed to the daycare provider.  If so how did you go about doing it.  Thanks!Morgan

Hi, I do!!!  I guess maybe the only only one, LOL!  My 3 yo is in daycare and I provide massage for the children and the providers.  I too have been a daycare provider and I am a mom and I have a child, everyone benefits.  I would go to a local preschool or daycare and tell them  all the wonderful benefits, bring along your lic, certs and other qualifaication, they will most definetly want it!!  as for if they aren't taking the bait, offer to show them free of charge what it can do to soothe a crying child!  And offer it to them as well, they will love it!!  Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

Or another possibilitiy could be for the daycare provider to set up the class for you to teach parents? Then the d.c.p. could learn for free while you get fee from parents to cover costs and time??

IT is a great thing, I taught one class to a group of mothers from my day care and they LOVED it, one even told me that her son had been sleeping through the night every nite that she gave him the massage with the music and the baby oil.  If you do this just make sure that you tell the mothers to bring a pillow, and some baby oil, or some other oil if their child is sensitive to a lot of things.  Though I do find that most children do well with the baby oil!  Good Luck, Let us know how it turns out!

For those of you who are already doing it, how much do you charge?  Do you get a good response from this type of nitch?What have you done to market to them?  I am trying to make a brochure and write a letter to the daycare provider.  Do you offer any incentives (sp?) to them?  What about doing a little certificate of completion after taking your class?

Are you thinking of having the parents come in to learn how to massage their own children? I, personally, wouldn't be comfortable with another person massaging one of my kids. I think it's because I see it as a very intimate bonding experience between parent and child. I might have misunderstood something?

No Im looking at both options.  Yes infant massage is a bonding experince but that is what you want with a daycare provider.  Its not trying to replace the parent/child bond but the child has to be able to bond with the provider so that she/he may feel comphy being with them.  That child spends sometimes up to 10 or 12 hours a day with a provider.  So it is important that some kind of a bond is formed.  However, I do understand your point of view.

I, personally, wouldn't be comfortable with another person massaging one of my kids.

That was my thought when I was reading the first post. With myself being an MT, I don't think I'd have confidence in the daycare provider to know if my child has any contraindications for massage or not, and am not sure if they'd know how much pressure is too much, etc. I think I'd probably feel more comfortable if I were invited along (as a parent) to learn along with the daycare provider, to at least know what will be done to my child when I'm not there. Too many people think the wrong thing of massage as it is, but when it comes to mixing massage with children by a non-licensed MT (the daycare provider), it just smells like something fishy could arise.

I'd recommend talking to the daycare and asking if they could help you market teaching the parents how to do the massage to their own children, but maybe that's just me. I'm paranoid, lol.
