Massage at Senior Living centers?

Hi everybody,

I'm sorry long time no type! I've been keeping up with things on here, though

Anywhoo, I had a brain-fart this morning... I don't do massage much at all anymore, but our office has contracted with someone very talented who DOES. She has had her own practice for a few years, but nothing has really come of it, so right now she's working kinda full-time at the Evil Discount Massage Franchise Chain in the evenings. We have her in the mornings and she's trying to transition OUT of her evening employment.

To help with that, and to also help our office generate a little more income, we thought about approaching the many senior and assisted living centers around here and offering massage therapy services to them. Has anyone done this? (I apologize; I haven't yet searched for this topic!) If so, how has it gone for you? How did you go about it, what worked for you, and what didn't? How did you manage to establish an "in" at the place and drum up clientele there?

I haven't done it personally so I can't give all the details but I know my instructor had quite a practice at several assisted living facilities in the area. She was raised by her grandparents and had a soft spot for seniors, plus she loved doing Swedish which was what most of them could tolerate. So it is possible!

I do chair massage, and 'bed' massage if needed in two seniors' residences. Consistency is always a bit of a challenge. Some people are good at remembering their session, others not so much. As they get older, people get lots of other appointments and they might miss this one.If you want to be really fast-paced, it probably won't happen at a seniors' home.

I also got in to both through someone I knew.

I have always found the work to be very rewarding. Old people get restrictions too! And it is great when they have been told by the doctor that they will have to learn to live with the pain or restricted range of motion - and then you make improvements.

I do some work in senior facilities. The main thing is your MT needs to love this population in order for it to be workable. Have you asked her how comfortable she is with the elderly, especially those who need assistance?

You may want to search on Rose of Sharon. I know she works with a lot of seniors in her practice and has posted quite a bit over the years about that.
