During the month of July, to coincide with ABMP's EveryBody Deserves a Massage week, I'm offering massages at a discounted price if clients bring in 3 non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food pantry. It's a pretty fantastic deal, while helping the community as well.
I emailed a lady at the newspaper to do a press release. I included all of the necessary information about this event, how clients can contact me, etc.
I open the paper last night and in the "Business Briefs" section I see a tiny paragraph about my July special. She neglected to include my website, a phone number or even MY name. Instead it lists the salon where I rent a room. Any new clients who see this will start calling the salon, where it could take days for me to receive those messages. However, that may be a good thing - the type of clients who would be calling probably won't be the type of clients I want to have because - get this - the headline for my little paragraph is "MASSAGE PARLOR OFFERS DISCOUNTS."
Massage parlor??!! Really? I mean c'mon! My business credibility just went down the toilet. If the lady had just used the words *I* had used in my press release we'd be good, but instead she chose massage parlor to describe my business.
Ugh.
