Metro introducing express trains?

I ride the blue line every morning and evening between Pentagon City and Foggy Bottom. It is a little frustrating during peak rush hour times to stop at Arlington Cemetary everyday so that an average of 1.3 people can either board or exit the Metro. Sometimes absolutely no one is getting on or off.

This morning when I boarded at Pentagon City the conductor came on and announced that it was an express train and would not be stopping at Arlington Cemetary. This is the first time I have experienced this.

Is the Metro moving in this direction or was it a fluke? Has anyone else ever experienced this?
