Newbie photographer: Which non-kit lens should I buy for a Nikon D3000?

I have the D3000 with a the AF-S 18-55 mm kit lens.
I'm thinking about splurging for a new lens, to be able to take shots I can't currently.

What lens would you recommend I get?
The thing that bugs me most about the 18-55 is the lack of substantial zoom, but I don't want to sacrifice my ability to make wide-angle shots completely. So I was thinking about getting the 18-200 lens.

What do you think?
 
The 18-200 mm VR is an amazing lens. I use it on most of my professional assignments.

It is a great one lens solution for an amateur photographer

Later, you may want to add the fine 10-24 mm super wide angle lens when you can save your pennies. It can take amazing wide angle shots.
