newbie review of Tui Na..

Well, everybody's gotta start somewhere, so here's my first contribution to the board, although I doubt that this review will come as a surprise to anybody here..

I was over at Tui Na a couple of days ago and got the most amazing massage, the girl said her name was Coco(at least that's what it sounded like..) and that she was the manager there.

My back and shoulders were pretty sore when I walked in and Coco proceeded to just work away on my back, she used her hands, forearms, knees and thighs on me for 45 minutes. When I finally got the chance to look at myself in the mirror afterwards, my back was red streaked because of all the busted capillaries!!

The session ended with her tickling my back, butt and legs and the release was pretty nice(can't rate it though, as this was only the second MP that I've ever been to).

So, if you are looking for an awesome, therapeutic massage, this place is a winner..

I'll probably repeat and go for a Shiatsu or when I need to be roughed up, but will definitely try other MP's, if you have recommendations for Markham or Downtown TO, let me know..

For downtown, Oriental Rainbow (Adelaide St. W next to the firestation west of University) is my preferred location. Good massage, including bars on the ceiling for backwalking and overall good service (but no beauty queens).

Where exactly is Oriental Rainbow? I went looking for it once and couldn't find it, is it west or east of the fire station? Is it in the same building as the restaurant Avalon? I live much closer to there than TuiNa, if the massage is similar I would appreciate the shorter drive.

It's situated in the building IMMEDIATELY west of the fire hall, located upstairs. Haven't been there in eons. At the time, there were two asian ladies. Tracy and ???. Tracy was the slimmer of the two. As one guy mentioned, not beauty queens, but pleasant and friendly.

It's on 1560 Bayview #203, just north of Millwood

the 2 girls that popped their heads out when I walked in, were slim, cute, but not gorgeous, both looked to be in their late twenties.

Coco, looked to be in her mid-late thirties, about 5' 4, slim and again cute. Trust me on this, most of the time your head is going to be buried in the table moaning because she's grinding her knees into your lumbar to notice her looks!!

It was $45 for 1/2 hour, $60 for 45 minutes and I think they charge $80 for a full hour.

I might want to stress that I sincerely doubt that there are extra's on the menu, nothing was offered in the way of N,NR or a BS, but you can ask, you've got nothing to lose..

Same deal - they absolutely beat you up with the massage and an 'oh, by-the-way' finish. Just great for what ails you.

For any of you that might recall, this is Shirley from the old Yonge/Steeles Health Centre or whatever. Jeannie is no longer there - anyone know where she went?

...but I think there is a difference between the two.

At Tui Na, their massage technique is mainly with the knees and walking on your back, which is terrific when you have deep kinks (physical only!) to work out. And the release is unispired but OK.

At Chang's, they use only their hands and sometime their elbows, which is much more relaxing for all kinds of tension and stress -- but what hands! Fabulous, IMHO. In fact, Shirley is without doubt the best masseuse I have ever had. And I find her soft technique at the end to be mind blowing.

Don't go to either place if you are not into massage. But if you are into massage, neither place will disappoint you and may much suprise you: you know, chemistry and YMMV!
