NEWBIE to clomid...ovulation....cycle lengths!?

hi, im completely new at all this. i have looked at a few older questions and didnt understand the jargon used! iv got a few questions for anyone who can share their knowledge...

iv just turned 24 and my periods have been absent for about 3 years, iv had blood tests, scans, everything came back ok. so i was put on a hormone that kick started my periods again. i had about 3 periods. the 1st one seemed normal, second one got lighter...third one was even slighter. and theyve stopped again now.
my boyfreind and i have been trying for a baby for way over a year. if i am prescribed the hormones that kickstart my periods, what day should i start on the clomid (if thats the route the doc takes!) and how long does the process take? i dont even know what my average cycle length is. i do know u only have a short amount of time a month to conceive...of about 4 days? has anyone got any tips, what i should do, when i should test for ovulation etc. thanks in advance
