Online Canine Resources

I'm looking for some anatomy charts online (not to buy) for dogs.

Specifically, I want to know what I'm palpating on my dog's belly. I don't think he's sick at all (we were just at the vet for a routine wellness checkup, and he hasn't any symptoms that would make me think something is wrong) but there's a funky lump on his lower abdomin. I'm 99% sure it's just an internal organ...but which? Am I massaging his bladder or prostate? :roll: (Although from the charts I've seen those look like they should be centered) :? Is it perhaps part of his digestive system, which might be really nice to have massaged to encourage movement?

This one is the best I've found, but I'm amazed how little I can find available online! Anyone else have some online animal internal anatomy resource, whether it answers my question or not?

I looked some time back for a basic canine anatomy chart that I could print off to just get a basic idea of where most things were. Like you, I didn't have much luck. Sorry I can't help there.

What you are feeling on the dog's abdomen... could it just be a fatty tumor? Is it firm, squishy, very stationary or kind of slippy? (I know... such technical terms : )

Love the technical terms

It's pretty stationary, not protuding much at all. My other dog has a fatty tumor on his chest and I can tell it's more superficial than the lump in question.

Kindred might stop in here and have a "maybe" answer for you, but if it were me, I might give the vet a ring and just ask. S/he may have noticed it and can tell you it's something common, or not and might want to give it a look-see, especially since your fingers are probably more sensitive than the average bear's...

I don't think I'd massage it til I had more of an answer tho. Could it be a hernia maybe?

Unfortunately, I don't have any online anatomy resources...all my resources are charts that I've purchased and books.

Not sure what you're palpating. You say he checked out fine at his routine wellness exam. They typically listen to that area and palpate, as well. I'm sure your Vet would have noticed something unusual as a lump. Without seeing exactly what you're referring to, I'm thinking it's his intestines you're feeling...maybe it was full...a movement ready to pass on down the line. I have felt this myself. In fact, I'm going to palpate around my male's belly this evening and see what I feel...will review back.
