Opportunity Came Up, but...

I have an opportunity to work with a healing center near me. It's a great place and i get along really well with the owner. She and i exchange and also just bounce idea off each other, etc. I've done some classes there too.
She suggested that I could come in and work from her place.

Pros: Really nice energy place.
Good location
I feel comfortable there
Good potential for client building
It would be a 70/30 split.

Cons:
SHe is a friend, not a hang out buddy but a "peer that I'm very friendly and in accord with" and I get worried about business ventures with friends. 'Ive always tried to keep that separate.

Also, I would have to charge people more there than I do now. About $40 more. That's a lot. My current clients would not go for that , I'd have to keep them here in my home office.

How would I transition to this place in terms of new clients?

Right now I just book people when it's convenient for them, but I would have to book at certain days only if working there. Such as Tues, Thursday Sat, sort of thing. At certain times too.

Also the money thing, it's high end rate. I think it would be uncomfortable for a while going up that high. I wouldn't know how to juggle two sets of clients, one here and one at the center . How and where do I price myself in ads?

Need advice, this could be a great opportunity. Not sure.

It sounds like you have valid reservations. Not all great opportunities are really all that great. You have a home office. Were you looking to also work outside the home? Have the two of you done mutual referrals in the past? If so, that should continue without you moving into her space.

It won't be a whole lot easier to build clientele in that location than it is in your own office. You would be more limited there.

I would be inclined to pass on it. Why potentially jeopardize a good relationship for a business venture that you are not 100% sold on being right for you? Someone who needs a space will be able to work from there.

I'm not pushing "don't take it!" or anything - just trying to reflect what I "hear" in your post.

$40 more??? Goodness, either you are very cheap now or that new place is way to expensive!

I don't have much else to add on top of sharon's post actually. I agree with what she says.

I have stated in other posts about working for someone. No matter how friendly they are at first, things change. She is running a business and has to look out for it, before anything else.

I am looking to also work out of my home office. This place would allow me to have a home for my classes as well. Right now I've been a traveling wilbury with my classes.

And I charge $65 for an hour and $95 for an hour and a half. So add $40 on top of that. Yea, quite a jump, it's at the high end, but she is doing pretty well.

Would I take new clients there? Just not sure how to work it out.

I'm sitting on this as I'm not clear on it yet, so your thoughts help.
