pay before or after? just curious

hi everyone! I was just curious if you all take your clients payment for a massage before the massage or wait til after? I just finished a work shop and we were all discussing different aspects of the job..and I was surprised at how many people collect the money before the treatment! I always collect afterwards, and I suppose it does not matter either way, but now i'm just curious.....

I worked in a fitness center where payment was made priot to the massage.

I, personally, collect afterward. I know that some people don't like to mess up the whole "feel good" atmosphere and deal with money. I always think that at least people know what they are paying for. It's a lot of $ to fork out for a service you haven't received yet. Since we are at that point of taking care of "business", it is also a good time to get them to rebook.

I suppose that it's a matter of preference. I always have them pay after, unless they offer the payment when they arrive.

Chair gigs, I usually have them pay first, because more than once I've had to send an invoice to HR to collect payment, either that or just lost the money because it was not at a company.

Private office, pay after, unless they have a gift certificate, then I ask to see it before the session.
