Perception of ITEC APM

Hello!

I'm new here - so here's my first question:-

I was wondering how well regarded the ITEC APM course is - is it generally considered to be a good qualification or are there others that are considered preferable?

I did it and yes it is well regarded as others will tell you....but there are other courses. Also ITEC have made the exams much easier now, not a good idea in my humble, but there you go. Ask away, I have done four ITEC courses and exams and am happy to answer any questions you may have.

I actually did the course a couple of years ago ad am now thinking of brushing up my skills and using what I learned. So, I was wondering if it is considered a useful qualification in the industry or not much cop.

Definately a respected one, though it changed and changes. There was a point when it wasnt as good (dont know when you did yours) and until recently was highly thought of, but things keep changing! I'm proud of mine anyway and it has done me well.

I did it some years ago, and subsequently have done massage workshops to increase my skills, and knowlegde. I would say the ITEC course is a foundation on which to build up your skills - it's giving you the basics. Also I imagine some colleges will be better at teaching it than others.

Totally agree. ITEC is a good foundation, as are the other qualifications out there. When I did my ITEC AP&M I really enjoyed the course and the tutor was thorough and easy to understand. At the same college I have done 2 other ITEC courses and am really dissappointed in the quality of teaching and professionalism.

As a non ITEC trained person I've generally heard positive things about it. It seems to be a well respected body. As people say here, so much depends on where you get your training and from whom. I guess you could say the same of AOR or anyone else for that matter. Best to go on the reputation of the individual establishment and its staff perhaps?

This one goes on and one doesnt it?! I would not consider ITEC to be a 'foundation' for training. I agree that you dont start to learn until you start to practice, but saying it is a foundation makes it sound inferior and it certainly isnt. I had to study a huge amount of a and p and sit a written paper in the subject so it isnt what I would call a foundation. That could put some folks off. It was very hard work where I did it (or was that just me being a perfectionist?[&:] It really does depend on the college and the standards they set. This is something that ITEC can be criticized for (amongst other things) as their courses should all be consistent.

Foundation doesn't necessarily mean elementary, the ITEC AP&M gives you the underpinning knowledge necessary in order progess in complementary therapies with an understanding of how your treatments affect the body. I studied very hard for my written paper and far exceeded the recommended learning hours, personally I think what you put in, is what you get out of it. Many people on my course skimmed corners and only studied the week before the exam and still managed to pass, some even with credits; but I don't think for one second that they are confident therapists now.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it is like a driving test. YOu get good and bad teachers but once you've passed the real learning starts. However I'm pleased that the ITEC name does have some of the kudos that they'd have you believe.
