Friderick Karlson is very good and they are normally an hour long (perfect you dont have to clock watch) sometimes there are two tracks on there and they are 30 mins long great for the back and shoulders....he does 8 different ones...

Where do you start, there are so many. I find the right music totally depends on my mood & that of my client. A lot of the relaxation stuff gets quite repetitive and a bit dull. If you haven't got a good retailer who will let you listen to the music before you buy try www.amazon.com as it allows you to listen to samples of the tracks (the UK site doesn't do this).

Goodness! It depends on my mood and if it's a relaxing or stimulating massage.

I use alot, Sanctuary from M & S (Very good to use with Hot Stone Massage)
I use a couple of Chillout albums with a mixture of classical and modern music.

Anything that is low tempo is pretty good. I'm not that keen on music just for massage it sounds like lift music to me. Keyboard music with no purpose.

I agree, it does sound like lift music! And there's nothing worse is there???

It is very difficult to get good music for treatments and I am also looking for some good ones to play in reception. Difficult as so many different types of people wait there. We may have somebody who would love a chill out album but an old dear with bunions waiting the see the chiropodist would probably not like it!

Dido is also good. But I am getting fed up now!

Another lovely CD is the soundtrack to Amelie, but I couldn't get it the day I wanted it and haven't got round to it yet. Not sure it's right for a treatment though.

It would be nice to get lots of recommendations and am off now to US Amazon - thanks for that tip. But it is dependent upon the client and what one likes another hates. Some bring their own music which you can always suggest.

Hi Lynda,

Gary Whichello has some nice CD's - I'm using 'Bridge to Wholeness' at the moment. I also got a couple from my local discount bookshop. They are from a range called 'ambient heaven' and I have "Crystal Healing" and "Holistic Massage" which are very relaxing.

Ebay also has this type of CD.

I found I needed more that one because I like a bit or variety - your client may only hear it once a week, but you hear it several times!!

Hi

I give demonstrations of an Indian Head massage in my talks on stress and use POP music and very loud as well. It's amazing how effective it is.

When I am in a one to one situation, I take along a selection of music for the client to choose from. Pan Pipes always seem to be very popular.

The selection I take is also what I like so I should benefit as well regardless what is chosen.

also i tend to avoid vocal cds because it can provoke emotion.

Bali by Midora
and Pure Peace by New World Music Limited www.newworldmusic.com

but I do believe its also the volume that counts a lot. When I'm giving a treatment I like the music to be just audible then I believe that it lifts the vibrations in the room along of course with a candle or two to burn off any negativity brought in.

I think the choice of music is a very personal thing but hope that maybe this helps a bit.

I use the rain forest cd a lot for my patient and I got really good feedback about it as it's quite neutral and it helps people to follow the nature's sounds and rythm.

I tend to use a variety of music for my treatments.

I like classics and I have some collections which give a nice atmosphere. One particular one is called Classical Ambience and it's lovely. The Four Seasons is a good one as well. There are couple of CDs by Vangelis that are good, Voices and Oceanic - without sounding like lift music.

As you say, though, it is purely a matter of personal choice but I do have some clients who prefer no music at all , the sound of silence does it for them!

Honestly, I have a confession, I use the CD's that fall out of the Sunday Papers, Classical Greats and Lets go Classical and so on, and people just love them.

Never had a complaint yet.

Spot on Gilly! My aunt and uncle have just given me a whole load of those freebie CDs and they're great. I find panpipes can get on my nerves and anything with running water makes me want to go to the loo never mind my clients. Enya is a winner and Billie Holliday or Ella are pretty good too. I also really like the music of Llewellyn (there is a range, Pure Healing, Pure Relaxation, Pure Calm etc). Enigma stuff is a good tempo for treatments too. For reiki there are a couple of nice ones, Heart of Reiki and Merlin's Magic.

I have quite a range in the clinic and always let the client choose. I have a few of the traditional 'lift music' as well as Dido, Norah Jones and Russell Watson. I always ask the client to bring along something they find particularly relaxing from home too and some have even left copies with me for the next time. Ebay are great for trying out new CD's, often quite cheeply, then if you don't like them you can always sell them on again.

I have no qualms about D/L from the net. I pay £30 a month for the net and I want something back. I have D/L about 20 meditation CD and they are brilliant. If Briatain had cheeper Cds then there would be no need for copies, bring the prices down, piracy will stop is what I say.

I recommend the CDs that are in the Kleeneze catalogue!! Ok bear with me on this one... £5 an album, lasts 60 minutes, ultra mellow ambience mixed with chilled piano. I bought Drift Away and Nature's Harmony. Drift Away is a bit more relaxing than NH.

I agree that vocals can provoke emotion. And some music might grate eg although I love 'new age' music it took me ages to get into Enya.

Speaking of meditation music, has anyone heard of an artist by the name of Jeff Pearce? His music is excellent for calming the mind soaring the spirit. He's on the US based Hypnos label. I use his music quite a lot for meditation.
