Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good remedy for hormones/mood swings/irritability/stress/anger/sugar cravings please? Whenever I go to my doctor they just want to put me on anti-depressants to level things out for me and help me to better cope with things (mainly my challenging six year old son).

Hi sorry to hear that it is like what it is. Irritibality, stress, anger/mood swings etc all that is supressed anger that is erupting out from every possible opening. You don't need remedies for this. It is emotion wanting to express itself. Just feel this anger/irritability/moods(high and low).
Its akin to sitting on top of a volcano.
Kali Phos 6x in bio chemic remedies can help you along a bit but it is really about allowing the emotions to freely flow by accepting them and relaxing into them. Hope better days are just round the corner

Unfortunately all of this suppressed anger means that I don't manage my son very well - I tend to react to him, shout at him and have a really short fuse with him. I am fine normally - just not with him. He pushes the right buttons I guess!
I don't want his childhood memories to be of a mother who was like Jekyll & Hyde, so would just like a bit of help to be more relaxed with him and to be able to enjoy him...

Yes, children do... They bring out what we been hiding. There is a lot of help available. I know what you mean about your son...You want to do the right things but end up doing something else.
Kali Phos over a few weeks should help calm you down.
Your intention to give the best to your child will guide you in the right direction and help will become available
You can try tapping, which is a great self help. Other members might throw in a few suggestions.

Have a look here for some ideas of coping and here for general dietary advice. I am always astonished how well these ideas work. If the problem persists then I suggest you see a qualified Nutritional Therapist who will support and advise you and suggest suitable supplements that would suit you specifically.

For stress and irritability, I can highly recommend Vitamin B complex (i.e. all the Vitamin
B group, since they work together). It really helps pacify, tones down likelihood of stress
and is great if you're tired. Vitamin B is known to work on the nervous system. If you are
prone to yeast infections, e.g. candida, thrush then get a yeast free one. They take about one and a half hours to kick in and last about the same time. Well worth it for when you need to be on top of things.

If your homonal/mood swing are period-related, there are lots of alternative herbal supplements for this, e.g. agnus castus, evening primrose oil, black cohosh. Look
into what these offer you.

Hi MandieG, Sorry to hear of your problem. You could try 5-HTP (Google it). I find it works well with stress, but dont take it with anti-depressants, they dont go togeather, but 5-HTP is a more natural way to deal with your problem. Yes I know about the six year old son syndrome. Once they start talking they never stop!
