Should I introduce myself to my potential employer and bring my resume?

Some people have told me to introduce myself to an employer and bring my resume with. Others have said that this might prove detrimental. What advice would you give? I have submitted my job application along with my resume and I know that they have been selected for evaluation but I cannot be sure that I will be called in for an interview. I am, however, qualified for the job and my resume reflects this. What is the best way for me to proceed?
