I am so excited-- we are within DAYS of our first sign going up on the new building! Yippee!
Our building is situated RIGHT along the new commuter A-Train that runs from one town to the other (thankfully, our town is a "no-blow zone", so the trains won't blow their horns unless necessary. Without the horns, all we hear in the office is a mild "whoosh" and pleasant "ding-ding-ding". There is no stop in our area (sadly! ). I've looked casually into marketing at one or both of the stops on either side of us, but that is prohibitively expensive. Not happening.
Then it hit me, this morning: Why not put up a DIFFERENT sign, aimed right at the passengers, on the back of our building? We already know that the city will allow us to have three signs, since we technically and literally have three froneforum.xxxes (front, side, and back, exposed not only to the train tracks but also to the whole other half of the town). Our regular logo is going to be on the sign on the front of the building (locator = "HERE we are! You found us!). We were thinking of just duplicating the same thing on the other two signs, BUT, now I'm thinking of maybe putting a much smaller version of our logo, with the words something like "Your Pain Relief Station" and our web site url on the sign on the back of the building. It would be aimed particularly toward the train passengers.
I'm not sure what we ought to do on the side (the back will be seen by the folks headed south on the train, and the side and front will be seen by the folks riding north). The building is tilted, facing somewhat "south-east", so you can see the side and the front when headed north (both from the street and from the tracks, as they run parallel in exactly the right spot. Maybe we should do the same "Your Pain Relief Station" on the side too, since the front will also be there. Anyone deciding to come see us from the train would have to drive to get to us, from either direction, since there is no stop in our town, which is why I thought putting our web address would be a good idea. I am already working on changing our site dramatically anyway; it might be cool to change it up a little to eforum.xxx off of the train's presence. After all, it runs RIGHT behind our building every (work)day, whether we care to capitalize on that or not!
It'll take us a while to save up for the other two signs-- it took us 2 months to save up for the first one, but I think it will take longer for the other two due to some increased budgetary needs. The train just started running last month, and I'm wondering if "time is of the essence" or if it would matter to wait. I would love to grab their attention as soon as possible, before they get so used to the scenery that they won't even notice the signs. But we also are committed to running this business without debt, and need to be careful.
Whaddaya think? Creative marketing idea extraordinaire? Or stupid as all get-out?
