Table massage out calls: How much space do you really need?

For those of you who do table massage in client homes, etc. How much room do you really end up needing? How do you effectively get this across to a first time outcall client ahead of time? Do you tell them you need about as much space as a (fill in the blank)? I think some people can underestimate the amount of space needed for both the table and the therapist. Also, do you end up helping them move furniture, etc. around when you get there if they don't have enough space? I'm envisioning worse case senarios where it takes a ton of time just to set up because the client doesn't have the space ready.

My table is 3' x 6', I ask for 6' x 9'.

Like MassageRelated, I just let them know I'll need a clear area of about six by nine feet. Whether they move furniture or not doesn't matter. I don't mind moving furniture and am careful to replace it where it was at the end when I tear down, just as I do when I visit offices with my chair. It's usually just a chair or coffee table or the like, nothing enormous.

Not everyone has that kind of space in their bedroom, so working in dens, living rooms, or even outside if the area is shaded and the weather good are alternatives.

I have some clients who always move things out of the way in advance, and I appreciate that, but it takes so little time that I don't mind doing it. Then I know when I leave they can just relax and not be pushing things around.

Setting up shouldn't take long even in a cramped room. In that case, quickly experiment with what angles in which you can place the table and pick the best one. For gosh sakes, don't make them feel bad. Not everyone has the luxury of space. As long as there's enough room to step back from the table you can alter your routine so that you can still do a good job (without sacrificing yourself too much) even if you need to skip some of the more space-intensive moves. Just tell yourself, hey, it's only an hour! and do your best.
