Hello all. I am starting my back-to-school deal, buy one (for mom or dad) get one half off (for daughter or son). I've made the coupons and flyers, but am a little stuck on where to put them at. I was thinking of going up to school admin buildings and giving them to the PTA, but how else can I reach moms and dads out there? I may be starting a little late, but it's as early as I could get to it. Any suggestions?

What exactly would I do in those stores? Do they usually allow people to put up flyers? Or would I even go that route? I'm not sure what I would do there.

You need to be VERY CAREFUL with this.  In some areas, a minor MUST be accompanied in the room by a parent.  All you need is some dumb kid saying, "he massaged my butt!", and suddenly you have more problems than Michael Jackson.Otherwise, I love the concept.  You might try to add to the flier how massage can also aid concentration, ADD/ADHD, and other things.Why not try making them coupon sized and ask the people at Staples, Office Depot, etc if you can put a small stack at each of the checkouts?  The parents can grab them on their way out.  It would also help if you offered to have them printed and cut there, too, so that the stores would be getting something out of it as well  .  Another idea is to visit the local high schools and offer to let them put your internet coupon on their websites (or a link to your website).  MANY parents visit school websites to get shopping and supply lists, so you might get some traffic this way.  You might offer to write an article on the benifits of massage therapy to students.  Parents and schools love anything that can help their children academically.

Thank you for the suggestions, that's a great idea. I would have to have the child's parent sign the consent form as well, and I won't do a massage for anyone under 16 without a parent present. But you're right about the "he massaged my butt" thing.

The schools here are open for a few days before school starts to do their school supplies sale and also have an orientation night for new students.  If you have a massage chair, you might convince them to let you set up during those events and hand out your coupons and flyers.You may be starting late (school starts here on 8/11!) but don't worry - there's usually a mid-September open house, a few band and orchestra performances throughout the year, PTA meetings, etc.  There's always another way into that market.

To let you all know what's going on with the promo, I set out a lot of announcements at the registers at Mannings, a local school supply store, and they were more than happy to allow me to keep them there. I went to the high school today as a start, and they told me that if I go to the administration building tomorrow, I can talk to a woman there that has to review it first, then if it's approved, it will be put out in newsletters, possibly put on the website, talked about to the PTA, and be known to all school officials / staff. Just thought I'd let you all know how it's going.

When you talk to the staff one person I would especially pull aside would be the PE teacher.

I would even go the route of giving them a half hour free to show them what you would be able to provide  to their students and their families.  I think in this instance a free massage is not a bad thing.

Sorry, I hit the button before I was done.I would also look into what it would take for you to maybe participate in a PE class.  Stretches, shoulder massage could be demonstrated.I don't know what the logistics are regarding this ...just throwing it out there.Robyn

We have a local "Mommy Newsletter" here that the parents of younger children read.  I get a copy every month at my son's preschool.  I'm sure it's inexpensive to place an advertisement in something like that.I work in a very conservative affluent area where many of the women are stay at home moms.  They constitute most of my clientele during the school year, but I hardly see them around holidays and summer.  They definately need a reminder to get in when school begins!A back to school special is a great idea!  I think I'll do that...Katykangaroo
