TENS?

Does anyone use this with their clients? Is it even part of our scope of practice? I don't mean the huge ones that PT's/etc use, but the smaller ones to help aid muscle release only.

Whether or not it is your scope of practice depends on the laws in your state. For instance in Florida it is but only if the therapist can prove "compentency." I don't use one on clients but I have one at home for self-care.

The chiro I used to work for would order them for clients for home care. Insurance would usually pay for them.

I have one that I don't use if you want it :grin:

While some people like them and seem to get positive results, I decided that I don't like them so much.

IF - the current licensing laws in your state do not prohibit the use of electrical devices, then I don't see that it is out of scope of practice...if you think about the intended use/goal anyway - muscle relaxation.

Licensed estheticians in most states use all kinds of electrical devices ( I do - and some of them are a little scary! jk )

My son mentioned that one of our instructors used one on him while we were in school. I'd forgotten about that!

An MT-friend of ours, and the one we trade off with, used one on my husband yesterday, because we were rear-ended the other day and now he's having all sorts of terrible spasms that nothing else is helping with. She'd forgotten she had it, she said! This is what got me to thinking, maybe we should invest in one. Even if we don't/can't use it for clients, it could really help his recovery (and other stuff).
