True Roots Beauty Bar is now open and offering salon and massage services in Collinsville.
Owner Cindy Boyd, a native of Franklin County, always dreamed of going into the cosmetology field.
“When I was a kid my daddy would let me play with his hair and he’d let me put makeup on him and put little bows in his hair,” Boyd said. “He’s my big fan.”
“The majority of us started out together at Cost Cutters the franchise,” Boyd said, where she worked for 19 years. When she left there, she started a salon on Kings Mountain Road.
Around the time the salon was discussing ways to grow, the building was sold.
“We wanted to grow from that … so that’s when we went on a little search and this one was for sale,” Boyd said. “It felt like home.”
True Roots Beauty Bar, located at 50 Shawnee Drive, held a ribbon cutting Wednesday.

Once they secured the building, located at 50 Shawnee Drive, they came in and gave it a major remodeling through a fresh paint coat, redoing some of the floors, putting on a new roof and installing new windows, adding new window shutters, touching up the landscaping and added new lights throughout the building.
“We wanted clean and welcoming,” Boyd said.

The salon offers two salon rooms with multiple stations, a separate room for shampooing, a sizeable waiting area, an upstairs massage room and additional staff spaces.
“It is bigger. So, it allows us to do more but I also feel like it’s more, because it’s off the road more, it’s quieter ... more luxurious.”
The salon currently has five stylists and one massage therapist.

“We welcome all walk of life,” Boyd said. “We’re not here to cater to one particular type of person.”
Though the ribbon cutting for the salon was on Wednesday, True Roots opened officially at the beginning of September.
“It’s been going well,” Boyd said. “It’s been going really good.”
