Hi i am asking for advice here,have any of you used a selected essential oil(s) to help a person to free them selves of weed and a loss of a relationship that cannot be released? my son needs some help and i want to apply it to his feet. any tips or success outcomes would be appreciated.

ps.this is untill he can get to the dr's but if i can help him without the convent meds it would be better for him and less worry for me.

Before I carry on, no oils will help them free themselves of drugs, they have to want to do this themselves.

I work with drug and alcohol abusers, as an Aromatherapist, I help with their emotional needs, they are mainly depressed, stressed, angry etc. We are not allowed to work with them whilst they under the influence of any substance, they are not allowed in the centre at all if high or drunk.

One oil I would say is quite good as it gives the feeling of euphoria is Clary Sage, not to be used whilst under the influence of drink as it can make you feel even worse.

Do not apply oils if your son has smoked anything 6-8 hours previously. I have found this to be valuable advice given to clients where I work.

Hi rayne, am sorry to hear of your sons addiction it must be a very difficult time for you both. there are some excellent sites around that will give you lots of great advise and help in both understanding the addiction, how to get help for you both and continued support throughout the journey ahead. Also is there an add action group near you?? or connect?have alook in the phone book or local directory both are excellent with young people and another rescource to call upon.
despite the difficulties there are lots of help out there though it can be problematic finding it sometimes!!
Unfortunatley i cant advise you about aromatherapy oils but anything that he may find relaxing would be benifical at any time especially if it encouraged him to resisit the urge to lite up, as would activities that helped him shift his focus etc. Ofterntime it can be difficult to understand the addiciton and the 'weed' of today is nothing like the heady days of the hippie when it was relatively harmless and easily out grown. Todays skunk is addictive physically,mentally and emotionally it will be a hard battle for him tho one he can win.
You are obviously a very loving and supportive Mum Rayne, the very best of luck for the future
ps dont forget to be very good to yourself to, he needs you to be at your best and that means looking after yourself and having 'me' time too xxx

Blimey, this is just a tad OTT, IMVHO. Sorry, but we've had this discussion many times on HP and (also IMVHO) the most addictive thing about smoking dope is the nicotine.

No, dope doesn't contain nicotine but it is mostly smoked together with tobacco which does.

Sunanda i repect your right to voice your opinions.However if you had the personal experiance of drug (weed) induced psyhosis and the pain and misery this inflicts on the person (including being sectioned under the mental heath act)and their familes you may not dismiss it so lightley.
Also government figues back up the significant rise in drug indiced mental health issues amongst young people in particular.
I make no judgement for or aginst the adult individual who has made a conscious descion to smoke weed, that is there right
However Rayne is a mother very worried about her childs addiction to this substance, my only motivation for the post was to reach out to her and suggest points of contact that she might find helpful,informative and supportive in her search to help him, I didnt think that needed deriding or dismissing as whatever your opinion are it is her worrys and concerns that we are talking about
And i can promise you that haveing a child addicted to anything is extremly distressing and very traumatic hence my advise for her to look after herself to.

It's always risky making assumptions about people you don't know, pollypips. It so happens that I do have personal experience of drug induced psychosis. And I STILL think your post is OTT and agree with longvines that your information is inaccurate. And the last government's record on dealing with drug matters inspires me with no confidence at all, nor do I accept their policies or their figures. (Given that they dismissed the Chair of the agency they set up to look into drug use because they didn't like what he said, I rest my case.) I accept that Rayne is scared and worried about her son but I'm sure he will be fine and that a calm approach on her behalf would probably help him more than panicking. If he were addicted to heroin or crack cocaine, then she would really have reason to worry. But as many mothers of recalcitrant children have to realise, in the end we can't do it for them. Our sons and daughters have their own paths to follow and all we can do is wish them well and say many many prayers.

Annoying! i did a post and didnt click post.I would just like to add a few bits so that it helps the full picture if i may,Celia dope itself does not contain nicotine but it is usually mixed with tobacco from tailor made cigarettes thats what contains the nicotine.Lots of things are addictive some to the detriment of mind and health, my son happens to smoke cigarettes and uses weed,but the reason i asked if there where any essential oils that may help,was to create a feeling of calm,as it is usual to be up one min then angry,so he just goes round in circles,he has some good ideas about what he is going to do but cant implement them because he is now hiding behind weed,whereas before he was using it with friends for a good time.!!
He has just been kicked out of an 8 year relationship and is staying with me..did he listen to his partner? no..otherwise they would still be together.he has 2 lovely children who i have at weekends,,so that there is consistency in there lives, so he sees them then. he has a full time job a new one ,which obviously must keep,but he must stop the weed, i have told him that he doesnt need it or the alcohol, he has to learn to face this cold and straight, otherwise he will never manage his life.i have also told him that he can do it and it wont last forever,,having said that,,its easier to say than do,but i did, i am on my 3rd marriage,yes it hurts but he will get over it and all i can do is keep telling him and keep an eye on him and nag him when he gets too close to the rails.I will do all i can to get him straight but ultimatley(sp) it has to come from him wanting to get straight,this ive told him and i will keep on telling him.I gave him some rescue remedy to take daily and then we will look at another for him, after he has read the sheets,he is going to see the dr in a couple of weeks thats the soonest app,but talking to frank will have to come from him.any way thank you for your comments ,if you have any sugestions that you think i could try as i have to do my best to help him, as it goes hand in hand really,,if im not worrying about him my life will be easier too. take care xxxx

Hi Rayne, how are things ? Has your son been to see the Doc ?

It's all to do with what's in the oils that you use and how it affects the body when a drug is taken i.e mixing with the toxins. I use a 0.5-1% dilution. Just like you can't use Grapefruit EO on someone who takes Metformin (diabetes) or Simvastatin (for heart disease, cholesterol I think?)

P.S Don't forget to look after yourself

Hi JoJo thanks for the info, he has been to dr and she listened to what he was saying and at least he has started the ball rolling! she is getting him some info on the effects of weed etc,and for now at least he is talking to his ex without the anger(both).he is still taking the rr spray,and the other flowers that i chose for him may not be right because his mindset has now changed.so i'll re assess that,i will have to talk to him about the clary sage as i'd like him to have a simple therapy say like a foot massage just to relax him and get the cs in to his system. so things are a bit easier too!x take care and thanks for the info

You're welcome Rayne, it's gonna be tough for him. But he has your love and understanding and that matters alot, he probably won't admit it

If he doesn't like his feet being massaged or feels funny about any form of contact, put some in a "sniff" bottle, a 10ml amber bottle with cotton wool inside few drops of essential oil and when he feels the need, usually when he wants a joint, get him to sniff it.
