When did you introduce solids?

My son is 5 months old, and has been exclusively breastfed up until this point.

I know all the good reasons for waiting until 6 months to introduce solids, and that is what I plan to do, but it is soooo tempting to try to give him some rice cereal or a sippy cup now!

At 3 months old, my son was eating cereal and stage 2 fruit....he's 7 months old now, healthy, never been sick, and is perfect for his weight and length.

you could try a sippy cup now with some breast milk in it. we started at about 5.5 months, a little later than that. he did well with it but we really spaced out feedings and it wasn't until he was 8 months old that he was eating daily.

At about 4 months, contrary to our doctor's recommendation, my wife and I began giving our daughter tastes of liquids such as apple juice and water. We also let her suck on our fruit which she really enjoys. She has really taken to clementine wedges.

My twin sister and I started having rice and stuff like that at about 5 1/2 months and we were breastfed until then. The longer you wait to introduce solid food the better for your babies digestive system, it may be tempting but 1 month isn't a long time

I was going to wait until my son was 6 months as recommended but he stopped gaining as much weight as he had been each month and also started waking through the night for a feed. So I started giving him solids at 5 months and water in a sippy cup. He was exclusively breastfeed up until then and I am still breastfeeding. You could always try him on some rice cereal or sweet potato but you might find he won't take it so then put it off for another month. Goodluck.

I waited until about 8 and a half months old.
And no,she didn't have any trouble learning how to eat solids. She doesnt' even get them everyday at this point, as the majority of a baby's diet is supposed to be formula or breast milk for the first year.
I wouldn't even bother with cereal, it's fully of empty calories, nutritionally useless.
It's simply recommended as it's easy to digest.
However, there are many things that baby can have at 6 months old, that are good for his brain and body development.
If you want to wait until 6 months (which is best), try avocado as a first food. It's got fats that are excellent for baby's brain development.
Sweet potatoes are good as well.
I'd start with the veggies though as some babies can develop a preference for the sweet fruits.
You are already at 5 months old, studies show that waiting until six months to introduce solids can prevent many food borne allergies

Im on my first child ans she will be 6 months on the 31st, and I started her on rice cereal and oatmeal when she was almost 5 months and she loves it. I wouldn't give your baby alot. I would start off will a 4 oz bottle and see how he/she takes it. Trust me they will let you know if that's what they want. I would only feed them a rice cereal/ oatmeal right before they go to bed. Mine she sleeps almost the whole night after one 4oz bottle. You have to watch them though because it is different then what they are used to having. I started solids around 6 months. She was exclusively breastfed til then. I did pump some breastmilk and give her a sippy for pratice around 5 months. It was fun.
