When do you introduce a forward facing car seat?

Sorry if this seems a little dumb but someone told me its when the baby weighs 9kg of more. My son is starting to put his feet up against the back seat. He is 9kg but is only 5 months old. He has good neck control but has only just started sitting up.
he is a big baby - wearing clothes 9-12m already

Have a look at Britax's website. They happen to make the best seats (Which? report) and all the info is there. ISOFIX is the safest fixing method.

I don't know what the law is there, but in the US they have to be rear-facing until 1 year and 20 pound. but studies show that it's 5 times safer for a baby to be rear-facing until they are 2 years old.

Atleast a year old.. Preferbably Older.

It's 20lbs AND a year, and even that is considered early anymore.

One year and 20 pounds, both, not either/or. But, it is now recommended to keep them back facing until two.

Well, that isn't realistic, but keep your child facing rear as long as possible. It is much safer if you were to ever be in a crash. Even at age 1 and 20lbs (the minimum) they are not strong enough to be facing forward. It is better to cross their legs and risk a broken leg in the event of a crash than risking breaking his neck/back. It is very dangerous. Europe has it figured out, they have carseats that hold kids rear facing to 80lbs!!!! The biggest we can get is about 40lbs..so wait till at least then!
