When introduced to a girl, do you shake or hug?

I've never figured this one out... Let's say a friend of mine introduces me to some girl he's friends with. Naturally, I'd go for a hand shake, but eh, feels weird. A hug seems to personal for someone you've just met. Girls, whats best approach?

When I meet people, I usually hug them. Then again, here in Hawaii were all about hugs and cheek kisses. Hand shakes are so wierd. In rare cases when a person has something that makes them seem unclean like a rash or something around their neck, I shake. I just always make sure to keep hand sanitizer on me.

Handshake, for sure. Unless it's someone in the family or close to you...then def. hug.

Outside a business setting, I just smile and say: "Nice meeting you."

I leave it up to the female to decide whether we'll shake hands or not.

Handshake is appropriate, and it does not feel weird. To hug a girl you just met is way too forward.

Why would you hug someone you were introduced to. That makes no sense. If you did that, it would make people think you are socially slow. A handshake, or a simple nice to meet you is fine.

DON'T HUG if they hug you then fine but you shouldn't. Hand shakes are good

Depends on the setting
A simple wave or hello is fine these days
If it is a formal affair then a handshake is best
If i met someone close to my age the first time and they go for physical contact in a casual setting I don't like that at all no matter the gender.

Shake, no doubt about it. Maybe once I got to know you better, a hug would be good. And this "friend of yours" I would hug, because I've known him for a while, right? But having some random friend of my friend hug me the first time I met him? Nuh - uh. That's too weird. I mean, I wouldn't hug you, I would shake your hand.

I usually shake hands if its anyone Im meeting for the first time whether its a guy or a girl.
