Would like to Redecorate

Every 5 years or so, I get the itch to redecorate.  I am feeling the urge again and would like to get some ideas from some of the other MT's.When decorating, do you have a theme or image in mind?What colors do you use?Do you prefer wood, tile, or carpet flooring?Does your space invoke a medical or spa like atmosphere?Do you like to incorporate plants, sculpture, water, pillows, candles, etc. ?Do you prefer wood, metal, or fabric furnishings?At the moment, my office is a muted rose and antique white.  The waiting room has a fountain, plants, and rataan furnishings.  My office also includes rataan chair and desk and plants.  The massage room is more homey.  A beautiful needlepoint on the wall, chair with a lovely throw and a cabinet for the stereo and music cds. But, it's time for something different.If you would like to include pictures, please do.

Your office sounds lovely!I really look forward to seeing a new office when i am seeing a new therapist, I love to see how they have their office, how it reflects them personally and their interests and how it makes me feel.  I always get a little 'dissapointed' when i walk into  a plain and/or boring massage room.my main office (lobby and massage room) is tan with black accents (furniture, frames ect ect), frechy italiany feel.  I framed some old fashioned french postcards, a toile tapestry and whatnot.  for a big focal point in the massage room, not wanting to invest in spendy wall art, i gathered 3 large old picture frames (large), i painted them black and sanded them down so they look all 'shabby chic'  and stenciled this phrase  right on the wall with a scroll type stencil      "In this room there is only peace"      "Matters of the outside world are of no consequence"      "No Worries, No tension, no stress" I framed each phrase close together so you read it as one saying.quick, easy, dramatic and CHEAP! I get positive comments on it all the time.Have fun!

DoriKaters,You sound so creative!  I love your ideas.  What inspired you?Was it one thing, say the tapestry ?  I know it was the needlepoint that inspired my massage room.

I found that saying in the form of an article in a massage magazine years ago - i tucked it away and came accross it again just at the right time.   I lost one of my offices due to a building fire and was quite suddenly pushed into decorating another office very quick like. I wanted to be back in business ASAP!  The new office was MUCH larger so I alluva sudden had all of this wall space to fill - but the budget of someone who just lost most everything!  I came across the saying again at the exact moment I needed something for a large wall and I already had the frames. (thank you Universe!) The tapestry definately inspired my rooms too! Once i found that the whole place came together. (well, its actually a toile print tablecloth - but it was PERFECT! so I hung it on the wall, sounds weird I am sure but it does look great!)So what kind of decorating do you think you will go with this time around?  Ask yourself what feeling you want to evoke for your clients and what colors/textures/details give you that feeling you want to provide.  I cant wait to hear/read how you choose to do it!

I'm actually decorating my very first office. I must say that my partner is doing a wonderful job for me. I was quite lost at what to do, not thinking I'd have an office for quite some time yet. The walls are a lovely blue-green (against something blue they look green and against something green they look blue - kinda cool!) and I have a chocolate brown wall for accent.My room does have an asian theme. I have quite a large room, so there is a book case, a little side table with comfortable chairs (actually lawn chairs, but they look good in the space) There's a chest and some other storage pieces. Some of main focal points is the display of my certificates, and a large buddha mask. We went shopping yesterday for some more accents. While I love dragons (and there will be some in this room!) I found some very cute elephant stuff. (I swear my mother-in-law was possessing me at the time! good thing I like her!)As soon as we take pictures, I'll post them.  ;DIts a brand new practice too, we open July 1st!

I really dont have a theme or object of inspiration at this time.  My thoughts turn toward cherry wood floors and a subtle yellow on the walls in the waiting area and my office.  In the massage room I will stick to carpet and/or wood floors with a rug. Clean and clear of "stuff".  Kind of minimalist in designSometimes, I think about a southwest design. Terricotta tiles and light peach or green on the walls.  I will continue to incorporate plants and water in the way of a fountain.  Maybe, a small garden fountain in the entry.  The furniture I own  could work with either of these ideas.

Nice yellow walls would be very comforting, I like that.  Like the cherry wood floors too, your 'new' office is going to look great.

Y'all make me feel better. My walls are a warm pale yellow. The deeply carved trim and mouldings are teal blue with a distressed whitewash finish. There's a deep counter along one wall with cherry wood cabinets underneath and the top is a faux distressed-copper surface. This is how the room was decorated for me. There are two overhead lights (on dimmers) that I turn off when working and instead use a medium table lamp placed on the countertop. I felt even that was too harsh so I put one of those 'stained galss' bulbs in it, and between that and the soft glow of the salt lamp it's perfect. Indirect and flattering but bright enough I can see where the blood is going in the tissues. The floor is ceramic tile ouside the door and inside the office a dark carpet with an ornate fluer-de-lis design...hides many sins, but I'd really prefer cork.

I like everything clean and uncluttered, even the sheets, so no patterns please. There's a collection of family and travel photos (sunsets and sunrises from various places) but all are in frames of the same color.

I've always wondered if the yellow should be another color (I find blue and green much more relaxing) so hearing others wishing their walls were yellow made my day.

A friend of mine has a room that is distressed goldenrod yellow, with distressed dark yellowgold at the top molding area (no molding) of the wall. She has a beautiful very large picture of some mountains with poppies in the forefront in a yellow-gold frame. She uses light blue sheets and has two windows in one part of the room to allow natural light in.

It's wonderful.

MRSkitten, the walls of my previous bedroom used to be a soft yellow (actually called parchment... but it was more like a buttercup...) and I loved that room. It was always sunny there!
I believe that I read somewhere that yellow in an office setting increases worker's creativity.
And if I remember correctly, that people who study feng shui say that yellow is the color that represents Health?
What do you think, these two factors, may account for it's popularity among MTs? :

Well, thanks for that input! Even though it's a pale color I always feel yellow is stimulating and worried about it constantly (no more!). The only room I've ever done in that color on purpose is a small bath that was redone very retro with lots of black and whiite tile, pedastal sink, beadboard...so a rich clean yellow played off the graphic effect nicely. But I like blue rooms, and my bedroom has always been a deep medium blue with crisp white linens and it's always seems cool and peaceful retreat.

Yellow for health! That's a bit of feng shui I have never seen explained and am glad to hear. What about other colors? Usually they just tell you to put a certain color somewhere, but not the WHY. I like knowing the WHY.
