I have been slowly converting my practice to be offering myofascial release and craniosacral therapy. I am now having a hard time being able to explain these services to the general public so they sound very appealing.

How would you all explain these services to someone who doesn't know a thing about massage?

This has been a challenge for me also.

I do leave out some CranioSacral brochures but the best way (for me anyway) is to just incorporate the techniques into my work.
I might do some diaphragm releases during the session or some cranial releases while I am working on the neck/face...what ever seems to be coming up during the session. I seldom do dialoging unless I am doing SER or energetic work specifically

Most people don't care exactly what you do in your session - or what you call it for that matter. They just want to feel better...that it was a helpful session. On rare occassions someone will ask me what I was doing or what kind of massage that was and when they do I will name the modality for them.

For new clients it's a little easier because they often do not have any particular expectations.
It is also helpful to put into your marketing materials that you "specialize" in particular forms of work and put in links and/or descriptions of that on your website.

I am sure that it is important to be able to talk about what you do.
All the marketing gurus suggest that you have your "elavator speech" ready for people.
I'm a little on the introverted side so keep putting this off. t002

I have posted links on my website and youtube videos under my service section. My struggle is when I have a client on the phone that asks me to explain MFR & CST. I am also keeping "massage" out of my ads just to give new people and idea that my sessions are not like a regular massage

I explain all or parts of the following:

Myofascial Release is probably quite different to any other treatment you have received. Myo means muscle, fascia is soft or connective tissue. Everywhere you have skin, you have fascia underneath it.

Fascia can get restricted or tight and it responds really well to gentle sustained pressure. You can't fight fascia anyway as it can exert up to 2,000lbs per square inch in the body! When you apply gentle sustained pressure, the restrictions melt. Once you have felt that melting, you will understand Myofascial Release. Once the restriction eases, you have reduced pain and/or increased range of motion.

It is a whole body treatment so I need to look at your body for imbalances - one shoulder higher than the other or one foot that turns in or out.

I am assuming that you are not doing Rolfing-type work, if you are doing CST!

Actually the MFR classes I have taken the teacher is a Hellerwork practioner. So my sessions are a lot like Rolfing. But what you gave me doe help. Thank you
