I have been wanting to change the focus of my practice for some time now. And my new idea has been in my think tank for a couple of years. What I would like to move towards is Equestrian Massage. And my goal is to have a few barns that I travel with to the horseshows and work on the riders after a long day of showing and working. I already have 2 trainers that I am working with and their students. And last years I went to 6 horse shows with them.

I have been around horses all my life so I know they way of life inside and out and I know the aches and pains riding can give you also.

For the next show season I am thinking of expanding to other barns, but I need a good plan of attack. I need to come up with prices, how much I should charge for extra travel and should I charge more if I need to stay in a hotel for 4 days etc.... And I also need to add it to my website what I am offering.

So I need some ideas on how to move foward with this

Check out this website: equinemmt.com and talk to Mike. He is pretty forthcoming with advice, and extremely knowledgeable in the field of equine massage. I've read a few of his books on equine trigger point. Although I have no interest in ever working with horses, I heard of Mike years ago, and have since read books by him and been to a few of his seminars. I am almost positive he wouldn't mind giving advice to you. I think he may even be from your neck of the woods, originally.

simpleman - I'm not positive - but I think what JLW means by Equestrian Massage - is that she wants to work on the riders - not doing Equine Massage which would be working on the horses.

Beyond that - perhaps try to contact trainers who work with riders going into major national & international competitions as they must have them see MTs for injury prevention & recovery, etc.

No, I got it. He works on horses, riders, and saddle fitting. It's a whole system. Watches them ride, fits the saddle correctly, massages horse and rider.

This weekend I am spending at 2 farms. After the riders have had there lessons I have been giving them massages. So far the riders enjoy the massages after barn work and they have asked me to plan on being there 2x's a month (-:
