Advice from IHM and Reflex therapists please

I would really appreciate some advice from you excellent pro's please.

I'm starting a certified course on IHM soon and wondered how you combine it with Reflexology. I advertise as Reflexologist, do you advertise seperately for the IHM and under what heading?

How long are IHM appointments, do you do the two at 1 appt. Or is it too tiring.
what is the scale of charges?
Also does it hurt your thoracic spine when doing IHM, is there anyway you can stop that?

And last but not least. DOES A BIG BUST (THERAPISTS) GET IN THE WAY.

I daresay some of this will be covered on the course, but on the whole I think I have learnt more from you folk.

Hi

Got your message, but thought it would be quicker to reply here as I'm off to college soon.

The way you are taught IHM is that the therapist is very aware of her posture and you bend the knees and squat, rather than bend the back. It takes a bit of getting use to, because it's like doing an aerobics class, but you can see that if you didn't work that way, your back would be in agony. I have no problem on the chest side of it!! Apart from the facial massage, where the head is resting on a bolster or pillow, you are supporting their head in your arm and they shouldn't really touch your chest!

The treatment normally lasts about 25-30 minutes, longer with a consultation. I think doing a reflexology treatment and then IHM may be a bit tiring.

I am going to advertise my therapies as one probably, just listing them. You would advertise as an Indian Head Massage Therapist - that's what I'm doing anyway.

Well good on you doing IHM as well....
MY IHM lasts approx 30mins and includes the facial. On clients that I know I have no problem doing the two...lets face it you sit down for the reflex! but I dont have anyone who wants me to do both at the same time.

I charge £20 for my IHM and £25 for reflex. Although I have a couch with a back rest supposedly for IHM I cannot use it so I sit them up on another chair....big bust no problem , I am a g cup and its fine....when it gets to the facial I gently rest them into myself and all think it is quite comfy, they dont have any problems in doing that and neither do I, I am not thinking about them at breasts at that point if you know what i mean....

I have had the most wonderful IHM from TigerBee and can report that her boobs are very comfy (hope I'm not going to get into trouble for saying that!) And you're not sitting there thinking oh no I'm leaning against her bosom because you are away with those fairies. Believe me.

You wouldn't necessarily have to combine both! You can offer them as separate treatments can't you? Not many people will want both, some may, some won't. You will limit you clients if you only offer that combined treatment. Many therapist offer multiple treatments, that's the norm.

It isn't tiring doing both. If you do a usual day of maybe two, three,, four massages, a couple of reflex and maybe an Indian Head, then yes you may get tired, but those two combined would be a doddle. Agree with Tigerbee, specially as you get to sit down!

You can put a pillow between you and the client. Get the college to show you that. You will cover all these things.

Thanks for the answers, I LOL as well!! Very helpful info and relieved the boobs are under control. I'm not sure about cradling some of my young chaps heads in my ample bosom so will have to perfect the pillow method!! Still, they really see me as a mother figure so probably not bothered.

Do you tend to do more reflex' or IHM ? Also Is there a category on Thompsons, Yell etc thats best for IHM.

I had 2 exams last week and the practical is on Saturday morning, that's the one I am more nervous about!

We don't get the results for another 6 weeks - bit of a pain because I want to advertise properly soon.

The course is on Saturday and Sunday, this week and will then be on another weekend. I'll have to do 30 treatments, 2 projects and have an exam. Phew!!

You are then eligible to be a member of GCP or other???

Good luck for exams.

You can advertise now as you dont have to have any specific diploma to practice IHM legally (Not regulated and according to Sue Bailey!!!) and as you have done the course and are already a M.A.R. You probably have enough knowledge and experience.

I think our M.A.R. insurance covers us for another therapy in addition to Reflex'.

I had a good week for clients last week, but only 1 so far this week!! Talk about feast and famine.

I've never had a problem with boobs and IHM..........as I am tall their heads tend to rest on my stomach!!!

Makes me wonder what Siobhan puts in those wonderful muffins of hers

The IGPP will not insure the one day courses that you refer to Iceni as they require examinable content...you can get insurance from some places....You may well find the MAR will also require the certificate before they will insure you...so only advertise now if you know you are going to pass....

You should be entitled to a free 3 line listing give them a call.....please be careful to sort your tax business out first the Inland Revenue has people trawling through yellow pages etc to make sure people are paying what they should.....it could take them years to find you but you never know....

Hmm I have had the argument before about the one day courses but when I called the IGPP and they informed me then that was it for me, I think they would be ok as Gillyann does for non vocational purposes ie family but i wouldnt go to a therapist who'd only done the short course....

My memory is dreadful..........must be that it is At One that is always going on about your lovely muffins

My young son made me laugh today. He followed a recipe from a restaurant that we go to in Ludlow (Olive Branch) for Brownies. The details were scant but it was quite obvious that there was a baked base and a fudge topping added afterwards. I went to check on the oven and the mixture was rising well above the trayback tin. After questionning him found out that he had done both layers and THEN put it in the oven. The result was INTERESTING!!!!

Atleast he tries Perhaps you should send him your coveted muffin recipe.

We should all get together for a weekend in Shropshire in the summer..........you could all bring your tents and countless supplies of muffins, of course!!!

Just read this post and was curious as to how you can fit an IHM treatment into 25 mins, mine normally last at least 40 mins.

And can you please talk about lettuce or tomatoes instead of choc chip muffins, it is no good for my waistline.....

The treatment i do is just a little over 30mins but they are probably nearer 45-50 mins from start to finish.
