Cold Hands

My hands are always cold and it's a but of a problem when they hardly warm up when I'm giving a treatment. Does anyone suffer the same and what do you do to warm your hands before and during a treatment, does anyone know of any warming massage creams or oils.

I find running my hands under hot tap for a few minutes and then rubbing them briskly together works for me.

Not quite sure how practical would be for you, but there are those 'heat pad' sachet type things, that stay warm for quite a few hours. - one of those in each pocket, so that you could put your hands on them before starting and on occasions during?
Or could making the room a bit warmer help?

I have the same problem. I always run my hands under the warm tap before giving each treatment. Clients think I'm just washing my hands in preparation. Naqi do warming massage lotions which don't have that 'Deep Heat' smell, but I'm not sure they'd work in this instance.

I also have some of the little hand warmer things that I take to the games with me when I may not have access to a hot tap. They work well too.

Three things that might help - cold hands are often due to poor circulation. the blood needs to circulate freely round your extremities and to help that
1 Try taking a ginkgo supplement see http://www.ginkgobilobaextract.net/benefit-of-ginkgo-biloba.php for the benefits
2 Try taking some Essential oils (Omega 3 and Omega 6) as in EyeQ supplement - most of us are very short of them owing to the other fats we consume.
2 Vitamin B6 has been shown to be helpful for improving circulation - but best taken as a B-complex because all B vits work together.

I have always had cold hands , and i was told it was to do with blood circulation , i have taken up tai chi and it has helped alot not just with cold hands but with everything

...... do some gentle arm-swings before you start work (just to get the blood pumping).
Once you're busy your hands should stay warm.

Why don't you use oil warmer? Pour massage oil into the bowl and it will be warm very quickly for the massage and your hands!! Google "oil warmer "and you will find it easily!

I suffer from the same problem! I find soaking my hands in a bowl of warm water helps. But I am waiting with baited breath for these heated gloves to become available!

A big thumbs down for those gloves i'm afraid - fully charged batteries last only 25 mins, and give out only lukewarm heat at best. No good for the weather we are having at the moment!

Sorry to hear the gloves are unhelpful!

Cold extremities are a symptom of low thyroid function (hypothyroidism) - have you been tested for that? If not do see your GP. It may also be diagnosed as Reynaud's Phenomenon which can also be helped.

Generally speaking avoid cigarettes and caffeine, both of which make the problem worse!

Hi I have the same problem - I was so relieved to see I am not the only therapist with this complaint-it's been a nightmare. I tried out the arm swinging suggested by Davidmh - it does help. But I think oil warmers may well be the way forward...and I also use a hot bean bag...
While my client is changing i hold one of the microwave bean bags and then when they are ready I say, ok I am just going to wash my hands (bean bag goes under their feet) and wash them thoroughly-fast rubbing-with a tiny bit scrub mixed with the soap then rinse well. It's the only way I have found so far to not get them jumping a mile when I make contact with them! Hope this helps!SS

I don't know whether this will help you. I always have cold hands and when I was investigating other therapies I came across Quantum Touch. In the basic techniques course there is a breathing technique which trains you to 'run energy' through your hands to initiate the healing process.

I have found that this helps to generate quite a lot of heat in my hands and I also find that running the energy helps me with my treatments too. Suddenly I don't need to warm them up any other way. I bought a click heat hands warmer and it's still in its' packet!!

Sheeesh, I have opposite problem, my hands are red hot and occassionally clients think I am doing reiki on them.

Agree with the idea about channelling enegy tho as when I do this my hands are mega hot.

Or arm swings to get the blood flowing.

This is a problem l encounter when we visit away teams and the changing rooms are frezzzzzing.
I normally carry a jug which l fill with hot water and allow the oil/cream container to stand in to warm up prior to using. The first squeeze l always rub into my own hands, then the second squeeze l use to start the massage. This l find always warms my hands and when applied to the skin of the player they only feel the warmth of the oil.
