Fingernails

I think my fingernails must be different than most people's.

When I cut them down-- the nail (thumb, second and third as mentioned above) is actually below the skin line (if you look at the finger from the lateral aspect) -- and, as I said, I still have white.  

You just have long nail beds. My nail beds are short, so after just a few days, I have a 'free edge' to my nail, even though my nails are still rather short.

I keep mine pretty short... just a little white showing. I press my fingertips to my cheek to check if they are too long. If I can feel them there, I will file some more.

I keep mine short but there is still a fine line of white showing.  I have long nail beds too.  I remember the reflexology instructor giving me a hard time about cutting my nails back and back and back again...my fingertips were to sore to do any work.  When he mentioned it again I showed him my nails -- there wasn't anything left to cut off other than my fingers -- at which point he admitted our hands/nailbeds were different and what worked for him didn't work for me.  I had to learn to roll my finger pads slightly more forward in order to avoid my fingernails.  Now it is second nature.I have found that washing my hands so often has left the back of my knuckles really dry.  Anyone here able to suggest a hand soap that doesn't do this? ???

I think people who get on a soap box about nails are *narrow minded and are generally the type that just do things by the book. *My nails can not be cut as short as people with little stumpy nail beds.*

**People we are not in 1983.... times change. *Massage careers are no longer restricted to old ladies working in spas that only do relaxation and deep tissue. Ever heard of Tai massage, acupressure, chair massage, cupping, Trio- effleurage *or Sports Massage. Even if you only like to do Swedish and deep tissue... when is it a good idea to do massage with your fingertips.

Other myths .... black is the best color for a massage therapists, short massage therapists have the longest careers, *men will have a hard time in the profession (as if women don't), you have be strong to do deep work ....the list is on and on*

Closer the better. Bacteria can grow underneath the nail if you're not careful.
