Hong Kong police are hunting a woman who robbed an elderly man of HK$44,000 (US$5,620) after she lured him into a flat in Kowloon for a massage.

The man, 69, was approached by the woman on Portland Street near the junction with Shanghai Street in Mong Kok at around 2.30pm on Tuesday before he was accompanied to a subdivided flat on the fourth floor of a nearby building, the force said.

“During the massage session, the woman left the flat to answer a phone call. When she returned, she informed the victim that she had to leave immediately,” a source familiar with the case said.

The insider added that after the woman left, the man discovered HK$44,000 in cash had been stolen from his rucksack.


He then filed a theft report to police. Officers searched the area but no arrests were made.

The woman, believed to be aged around 25 and 1.58 metres (5.2 feet) tall, was wearing a white shirt and grey jeans at the time of the incident, according to the source.

Last year, the city experienced a spate of crimes involving elderly men being lured by women with the promise of massages or sex before having their valuables, such as luxury watches and gold necklaces, stolen.

In July, two women stole gold necklaces worth HK$96,000 in total from two elderly men in Sham Shui Po and Tsuen Wan after promising sex or massage services during a No 8 typhoon signal.

In a similar incident on June 27, a 79-year-old man was lured to a Cheung Sha Wan flat with the promise of massage services. His HK$30,000 Rolex watch and a HK$500 ring were stolen.

At least nine cases occurred in February last year, mostly involving elderly men. Three of the incidents were reported in Sham Shui Po, while the others took place in the New Territories.

Police arrested a couple from mainland China on February 22 on suspicion of stealing HK$3,000 from an elderly man after he was lured to a subdivided flat in Sham Shui Po with the promise of sex.
