Your not sounding confident so don't go up and just say "hi". You need to find a way to get her to talk to you. You know her friends, right? Then talk to her friends, make it a good conversation, make her feel left out, then ask for her opinion. She will be happy to be to be put into the conversation and respect you for including her. Use that to act confident and to make yourself look like a good guy.

It would be really awkward to just walk up on their friends and barge in on the conversation. What I would do is just wait until she's in a class with you. If she's not in any of your classes, well...can't really think of anything else...

write a note to her saying your name and that you want to talk to her but your shy and this could be kinda like an icebreaker then put a pic of yourself in there so she knows what you look like if she alrighty doesnt then put the note in her locker so she will come up to you then take it from there
