Hi
I'm 60 years old and would describe myself as very active. I work out regularly, bicycle regularly and play golf. I have recently finished an extensive period of physical therapy to address injuries from a biking accident. I ruptured muscles in my calf and thigh. The physical therapy involved lots of stretching, ultra sound and deep tissue work (with tools .. ouch). I still have tightness and am not able to get fully back into my regime. My trainer at the gym has recommended massage therapy but I am not very familiar with the potential benefits and any possible concerns. The only times I have received massages have been at vacation resorts. While they were relaxing they certainly didn't address any specific health issues. I have other health concerns and asked my doctor's opinion about masssage therapy. She was ambivalent. She didn't have any concern but didn't seem sold on the benefits. My other health issues are high blood pressure, A-Fib (intermittent irregular heart rate) and prostate problems. As a result I am on a bunch of different medications.
So are Massage Therapists trained to take my health issues into account while treating my leg injury? How do I go about finding a Therapist? Am I better off going to a chain, a spa or a private individual?
