What do you want out of your uniform???

Hello again,
first off i just want to apologise for my last post which was removed, as i put in my web-site, didnt think of the advertising side of it!
I'm just interested in what therapists really want out of their uniforms???
From experience i've seen that the average Beauty therapy/Massage parlour wrap up the therapists in a clinical looking polyester uniform, which look not only restricting but uncomfortable too!
My theory is; A massage or a treatment is ment to be relaxing but i'd say a white polyester uniform would set a mood more like that of a denistand i dont know many people who go there to relax!
On top of that with the comfort factor for the therapists in mind, the polyester will trap in any heat and have no give in it, so be restraining!

I'd love to hearyour thoughts on this.

Well my uniform is a navy Lonsdale tracky bottoms and sleeveless navy Lonsdale shirt. Very comfortable, looks good and professional, and very functional! They don't restrict my movement, don't drag on the clients and keep me cool. Working barefoot too.

Not overly fond of the "beauty therapist" uniform, some training I'm looking at requires your "Uniform" to be worn - hope they aren't too strict on this. My Lonsdale gear is my uniform!

Here, here hemelgirl! - easy wash, NO ironing, comfort and ease of movement!! Very important.
I have a variety of colours of polo shirts (- tried white but it gets a grubby look from oil after a while) - I choose which colour I fancy depending on my mood.

this is an interesting post.

When I trained (many years ago) my first tunic was very functional and nurse-like. White and looked starched. I then went the opposite and ordered white dungarees and wore a white tee-shirt underneath. ( the dungarees were advertised in a therapists uniform brochure).
I then had a black tunic with a zip.

Now,
I have a brown assymetrical tunic with a chinese collar, if you wash it and hang it up it doesn't need ironing, its comfy and functional. Looks a bit different and has received lots of comments.

A uniform can be an important part of the whole treatment experience. It looks professional, it can look sophisticated almost glamorous.

I also sometimes where casual clothes to a treatment, especially home visits. if thats the case its generally black trouseurs and a black plain top.

I usually work in a t-shirt and black trousers. I'm thinking about getting a new tunic though and I agree with what's been said - easy to wash and no ironing!
Where has everyone bought their tunics? I've had a look and most of them are sooo expensive! I'd like different colours as well, not just white, and some 3/4 lenghts trousers.

The choice of uniforms for us boys is, in my experience, fairly limited! I would love a good well fitted sleevless top, chinese collar, maybe buttoned down to one side just off centre and loos comfy trousers. Preferrably a dark brown or black. So far I haven't been able to find one that I feel is suitable.

I have worked in a Comp. Therapy & Beauty Salon before now and pretty much wore the same their.

its my own room so its my choice to wear the uniform, the person before me wore smart casual.
I chose brown because I think it reflect my holistic treatments better than white or black which is more beauty/hairdressing.

I am considering going for a long linen chinese type tunic with slits up the sides and a pair of 3/4 length trouseurs underneath. Have seen some nice ones in Chinese shops but haven't tried them on yet.

I got my brown top from buttercups. If you get the brochure they seem expensive but check them online as I got my top for about £30-35 including p&p. when it arrived I was disappointed as the assymetrical buttons weren't sewn on correctly, I had to take them off and re-sew them to cover up a seam (took 5 mins). Also you can order embroidery for it so could get your name on.

Hi All

RE the Tunic, for my course I had to have a white chinese type hidden button up front middle tunic and black trousers and name embroidery on the tunic. We had a recommended supplier from the college, and a different supplier to get the little black bag with 4 plastic bowls for the cotton buds and oil for the reflexology. Wanting to do Hopi Ear Candles this sept and they have now changed to black tunic! The white reflects back the negativity from the clients. Checking out the next holistic exhibition near me in the next few months, so will see what uniforms are available. There does not seem to be anybody making them in pure cotton unless it is a one off and they charge if they do. Some people are allergic to polyester etc.
