What's the best way to introduce a new kitten to the house?

I just got a 10 week old kitten yesterday. I already have one adult male cat (neutered) who's about 1 1/2. Yesterday, we held the kitten in front of him and he hissed madly. So we took the kitty to her own room downstairs and basically isolated her from the kitty. Later on in that day, I let the male cat go right up against the closed door of the kitty, and he hissed and growled madly at her. Please tell me if this is normal or not? Also, how long should I do this isolation thing and when should I fully introduce both kitty and cat. And when I do that, should I be holding the kitten while the male comes into the room or what?

well the reason that the older cat hissed at the new kitten is because the older cat has been there longer then the kitten and it thinks that the kitten is an animal that shouldn't be there.It is very normal.let the kitten roam around by her self, if she is wanting to go to a place in the house then she will roam to that place.Also if you keep the two cats separated then the 2 wont be able to get used to each other. I am glade to help.no do not hold the kitten while the 2 r seeing each other. the mail cat will feel jealousy and hiss more and more.

it normal what u should do is keep the new kitty in one room with food against the wall and the other cat in the room rite next door and every day move the food so the cats can get each other do this for about 2 weeks this should help a lot after this make sure you pay attioen to both cats equal or the hissing and growling might happen again
