What's the best way to introduce our new 6 month old cat to our new 2 year old dog?

We got the cat last night and I'm picking the dog up today at 4, when I bring the dog home what's the best way to go about introducing the two - I have no background info to determine whether or not they get along with other animals.

Have them smell each other thru a door, then move on to brief visits with you and a friend holding each, slowly work your way from there. I reccomend NOT leaving them alone until you are 100% sure that there will not be any fightong. It might take months but dont give up, and hey they could become best friends in no time. GOOD LUCK

Hi.
Fist you should have someone put the dog on a leash and someone hold the kitten and let them sniff each other. Do that repeatedly, about 2x per day. once you are sure they wont fight let them in the same room, with no leash, but carefully supervised. Hope it works out!
