I just switched my credit card processing over to Square. (I needed something I could use on the road). I'm still awaiting my reader so I can swipe cards with my smart phone, but I have already used it by manually entering the cards and it is AWESOME! The client signs their name right on your smart phone screen. You can email a receipt to your client, and the funds show up immediately in your Square account. Then take a couple of days to deposit into your bank account. It's alot easier to keep track of the funds than with my old cc processor. (pipeline data processing and I used an old swipe point of sale terminal).
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! No hidden fees, it's simple and quick. Super easy to sign up. I so wish I would've made the switch a long time ago!
Plus, people think it's pretty cool when they go to sign their name on your phone :grin:

What were your start up costs? I have a Droid would this work for my phone?

I have a Droid too - it's great! No start up costs. Just sign up - you'll get your reader in the mail in a few weeks, but you can start using it manually immediately. (higher % for manually entered cards though). I signed up and downloaded the app on my phone and had it working immediately. Took a couple of biz days to verify my bank account so they could deposit my funds. Seriously, this was SO EASY to signup and get started. I've been putting off trying a new cc processing company because signing up for my last one was the biggest headache EVER! I couldn't believe how easy and pain free this was! :grin: I highly highly recommend!!

Who do you use for credit card processing?

I use Transfirst (http://www.transfirst.com/) which is a little more expensive, but I can also take the unit around with me. That works great for selling my soaps or doing chair massage out of the office. The swipe unit is about the size of a cell phone and comes with a little printer that isn't much bigger. So, I can just swipe and print--very easy and fast. I don't have a computer at the office or phone service, besides my cell and this system works great since I don't have to manually type anything in or collect numbers to enter in the computer later.

Although the machine is about $60/mo, the charges are much less. For all cards, except AmEX is 1.63%, AmEx is a little higher-- I think a little higher than 2% (can't remember exactly). And then I pay another $60/mo for security, use of the machine and other stuff. I'm sure I'll find something cheaper to switch too, but the credit charges are the lowest I've seen yet. At this time I'm only bringing in between $1500 & $2000/monthly cc sales (I'm only at about 1/2 my goal for clientele as I opened a new business this past January), and about 90% of clients use their card. I need to get out my math skills to determine if it's worth it or not before switching to a cheaper cc service. For an added $20/mo I can set up a payment system on my website for people to order gc's and pay for their services, which I'm working on getting set up as part of my new website.
