Introducing the baby and dogs...first introductions....nervous. How is the best way

to do it? I have 2 dogs, we think when I go into labor we are going to have one of my relatives take them up for boarding for a few days. And then the day after we come home my husband will pick them up from boarding, that way we will have had a day at home first.

I have never done this before, so does anyone have any suggestions for introducing the two dogs to the baby?

Also they are both well trained dogs, and they know there limits. Also we know to never leave the dog and the baby unsupervised together.

Other than that, I have no idea how to introduce dogs to a baby.
Again we will be home a day or two before the dogs will. They are being boarded

And we have exposed them for the last 2 years of their lives to kids of all ages. And they are good with kids. They even handle the occaisional ear pull or tail pull.

I've just never done this before

One is a Terrier mix, and one is a poodle and we've had them since they were puppies.
ADD: I have gotten some good tips on here about this before, and I just wanted to ask again so I could be jotting this stuff down since we are getting closer and closer to time for the baby
ADD: I am looking forward to bringing baby home and having a day or two without the dogs, just to transistion

make sure the dogs are well exercised/not hyper when you first introduce them..
i would start having them in a gated room at first just to be around the baby and so they can hear it cry ect without freaking out (not sure how much your dogs have been around babies.

second put one of your dogs on leash, have it go up to the baby while you are holding it (not at face level have the kid higher incase anything fishy.
let them sniff a little then tell them to leave it alone..
then do the same with the other dog..
don't act like it's a big deal, just make sure none of them are scared of the kid..

well, you should do it one dog at a time... i mean just have you and one dog in the room at a time hat way u have complete control,while holding the baby let the dog kinda "sniff" her, i dont mean all in the babys face, i guess sitting on the couch holding the baby while the dog is sittin in front of you. then after a few min, take that dog out and let the other one in and when you feel comfortable. thats when i think its best to just have both dogs around... from what i been thru.. make sure the dogs cant get in to the dirty diapers... lol

To start out I wouldn't let the dogs near the baby. I would teach them that it is your baby and they are to respect the baby. I wouldn't let them play with the baby's toys or blankets. Don't let the dogs into the baby's room to start out so they totally respect the baby and its things. I would correct any level of excitement higher than 2 from the dogs towards the baby. Some dogs will start barking if a baby cries, I wouldn't allow that either. Good luck with your dogs and baby!
