VTCT or ITEC

Hi, I was going to do an ITEC Indian Head Massage course but I can no longer go during the day. There is the option of doing VTCT, but I have no knowledge of the course. Apparantely you have to get 100%, but that seems a bit steep. What is the final exam like, is it multiple choice or an exam paper.

I did Vtct Indian head massage with my beauty lev 2 in 2005,it was a bit rushed because of lack of time but i didnt find it hard....My boyfriend loved being given I.H.M..

I don't think you have to get 100%, but you're coursework will be continuously assessed and would have to be a high standard. Plus with it being a short course, you're attendance would have to be very good too.

I have recently qualified in VTCT level 3 Indian Head Massage. I would say that the course seemed designed so that you would not fail! Much of the course is based on assignments to cover the health, safety, legislation, etc. We had a short multiple choice exam at the end, for which we were required to get 100%, but for those who didn't pass first time, you were allowed a couple of retakes. I found the course enjoyable, it was also one of the shorter courses being only 20 weeks, and my only complaint was that we didn't seem to spend enough time on the actual massage routine! However this all came together as we worked on our case study clients, so it all comes together in the end! Go for it!

With VTCT courses they are coursework based with a couple of simple tests which for some you have to pass at 70% & can resit if you go below that. You have to attend at least 80% and you have to pass all the assessments with equals 100%. The assessments are just the client treatments for which you follow the routine your showed and any health & safety requirements.

Your allowed plenty of opportunities to pass so don't worry. I'll be doing IHM in september too. Good luck

Thank you kindly for your help and advice. That is great if the opinion is that they want you to pass. I found with other ITEC courses that they are SO HARD, so I will definitely choose VTCT over ITEC. And I am glad that it was enjoyable.

I started it last Sept and it finished in December. It was coursework (portfolio) which was handed in after Christmas. We then had to do a health and safety multiple choice test in March/April time.

One thing I'll say that's negative - I have yet to find out if I have passed. It's almost a year since I began the course. I had to pester the college several times before getting a (not very satisfactory) reply and also emailed VTCT twice who have never replied.

My advice is, if you think you'll need proof of passing your course for a job then make sure you check with your college exactly when you can expect to receive your results.

Sorry to hear uve not been having a fun time getting your results. Ive spent Two years studying massage/aroma and reflexology and although the college was very trying sometimes they did get things done in the end. I have contacted VTCT direct many times and they have always replied back. My lastest enquiry was to find out when my results would go out and they stated i should get them by the end of Aug.....I got my diploma in the post last week.

I think it just depends on how organized your college is?

I have to say I'm not overly impressed with the college, and know that others feel the same.

I did the Indian Head Level 3 VTCT Diploma and found it quite easy but enjoyable.

I've done several VTCT therapy courses, and as previous people have said, I've found them all to be structured so that you can't really fail unless you give up, but I guess it depends on the college.

With regards getting your results, my college always gives you a letter signed by the dept head at the end of the course when your portfolio has been assessed as competent. I use the letter to upgrade my FHT membership and insurance, so I don't have to wait till the certificates come out 6 months later.

Hello, Ive just signed up and paid to do a VTCT Indian Head Massage evening class at college. I did the Swedish Massage course last year and thoroughly enjoyed it and as someone has already said it is difficult to fail unless you give up. Go for it, if a busy 43 year old can pass Im sure anyone can.

Hi there. I did the VTCT IHM course about 5 years ago and it was an intensive 2 week summer school. The exam was no problem and we certainly didn't need to get 100%. Things might have changed though.

Back then, we were told after completing, that VTCT is being eased out and soon may be considered exempt! So we were advised to take ITEC courses for future subjects. However, none of this was confirmed and it is now 5 years down the line and I haven't heard any more rumours to this nature.

I think you will be fine doing the VTCT, even though mine was an intensive full time course, it was very well taught and the exam was pretty straightforward.

I agree, a two week course sounds very intensive! I think the pace of a year (or so ) course would suit most people better. I suppose it depends on the individual.

I did VTCT IHM Course back in March, pretty simple and tutor was fab but a very short course. I am still waiting for my certificate and I have to say was not impressed with the college I used - i probably would not go there again or refer anyone there but hey that's life. I would guess on doing thorough research on the right college first, with feedback, then make a choice.
