What have you experienced with Reiki?

I have heard much about Reiki,  Some of the articles I have read especially in "Massage and Bodywork" seem a little FAR OUT there.  But, I am trying to keep an open mind.  Can you share some of your thoughts and experiences with Reiki.  Where did you recieve your instruction, etc.?George ???

I learned energy work at school and have experienced the power of the nature.  There are so many Reiki masters and I don't like the series of intensive courses that doesn't allow students to have adequate time to practice and "get it". I know there are 5 day instensive seminars for Reiki 1,2 and Master.  I am going to take Reiki 1, a 2-day seminar on Jul 31and Reiki 2 in Dec in WA.   I found the instructor on NCBTMB continuing ed list.

An instructor came to our class last week and talked to us about Reiki. She performed Reiki on each of us but I didn't feel anything so it's not something I'm interested in.

We had a Reiki group come in during an experience weekend while I was in Massage school.  I too tried to keep an open mind about something "far out there" (like George) new and energetic.  We did a meditation which was relaxing.  The group talked about Reiki and personally I felt like they were "selling" it (that turns me off faster then a NY minute)Still I tried to keep an open mind.  We did a little partner practice where we held our hands very near our partners and actually much to my amazement I could feel the energy transference going on.  It was very cool.I would not take Reiki with this group however, due to their sales techniques.  I will eventually take Reiki if I find someone who is not "selling it".Perhaps Lady, like me you did not have the connection with the presenter, try to keep an open mind...perhaps someone different can shed the light.Lori

What have you experienced with Reiki?

Prior to receiving my Reiki I attunement last summer, I had only experienced a treatment once. It wasn't anything to write home about, so I didn't think much about it until I met a Reiki Master and began learning more about it.The attunement process had a lot more "bang" than that treatment... it raises your vibration, so old issues sometimes come to the surface. We worked through it together and completed the attunement. My sensitivity to the energy is very high yet... I actually have a better feel for it from a small distance rather than right up next to the body. I'm thinking about the level II attunement solely for that increase.

What have you experienced with Reiki?

Reiki is a little far out to anyone who hasn't experienced it (and to those who have, too.)  i'm a Level 2 Reiki practitioner and it still amazes me every time i do it.  i've helped people with frozen shoulder, stomach problems, trouble sleeping, and a lot more.  Reiki just realigns your energy and gets it flowing the way it's supposed to go.  there is no "practice" or "getting it" - once you're attuned you're attuned and you can do it forever.  the concept of where it comes from may sound odd to some people, but once you've experienced it you will believe in it.

I attended my first Reiki session last night.  I received my level 1 attunement and practiced giving a treatment.  I was very amazed.  By the end of the class, I felt like I was on a tranquilizer.  I was very calm, my mind was quiet (which is unusual), and I felt energized.  I am not one simply to accept what another says and say "Oh, yea, I feel it", when I don't.  I did feel it and so did the woman that I gave a treatment to who had not done this kind of work before.  She was stunned by what she felt and we had to stop the treatment early.  Even today, I feel light and invigorated.  I'm really excited about continuing and learning more about reiki and how to use it.

What have you experienced with Reiki?

Hi. I'm new to this board (investigating MT school) and have to respond to the Reiki comments. I, too, thought it far out until I had treatments for torn shoulder issues. I couldn't even raise my arm away from my side. After two treatments I could raise my arm above my head without pain!! Eventually (years later) I did have to have surgery. Recently I had more advanced levels of Reiki (7 Ray, etc) on the other shoulder for a new tear and the pain and problems were totally gone in one week!Every person who has helped me insists that a good teacher of Reiki should not be out to overly-profit from giving attunments to a newcomer -- i.e. levels I, II and III should be about $75-$100 not $500. However, go with your gut feeling on this. I've been searching for a teacher in metro Atlanta and have seen these prices recently.Good luck and give it a chance. It really does work!

I've experienced Reiki (done to me) just once and unfortunately it wasn't a very positive experience for me.  I was nervous (new friends, new environment) and had a hard time relaxing.  I had no idea what reiki was nor was anything explained to me - I just got on the table when it was my turn.  Also, I was freezing cold the whole time - like practically shivering.  I don't know if that was an effect of what they (there was a man and a woman working on me) were doing or if the thermostat was set for fifty degrees or what.  It was fascinating how HOT their hands were getting and odd that it felt like someone was pushing down on my tummy but when I looked, their hand was several inches above me - other than that I didn't really "feel" anything neato, during or after.  This may be unrelated, but I felt sick (very tired, slightly nauseous) for the next three days.  What was all that?Since then, I've read articles and heard testimonials about how wonderful reiki is and all the good it does.  I still don't understand quite what it is, but I'm very open to trying it again to see if I have a better experience.What makes the hands get hot during reiki?  I'm curious, because I've had many clients tell me that my hands sometimes get very hot during a massage.

What have you experienced with Reiki?

Hi Michelle,My understanding of the reiki view is that the energy channeled during a reiki treatment can feel like heat. Most practitioners channel it through their hands (I believe all Level I's are supposed to only be able to use the hands). As far as your experience, it's hard to say. Had you been working 1 on 1 with someone in an ongoing sense, you could ask them. My best guess: if the symptoms you experienced were related, perhaps the reiki treatment allowed you to unblock some things and you went through detox. There are ways to facilitate that, e.g. drinking more water, setting intentions, and of course, more reiki--specifically to address the detox. What was the context of your reiki session? Was it a free group demo or something?

Sometimes the Reiki energy can feel cold.  The couple of people I've come across that say they usually feel it as cold have both been high level masters, and they fell it as cold giving and receiving though their hands were warm.  It might be that they are a bit more attuned to a finer frquency and beginner reiki is a bit coarse and feels cold.

Pretty well any form of energy work tends to make the hands warm.

Michelle, I'd say you're probably already doing energy work, even if you are not aware of it, and that the reiki frequency combined with your own contributed to the cold feeling (and maybe the thermostat)

I've done quite a lot of energy style courses, including reiki and Reconnective Healing, so I'm not actually sure what is coming through me.  I really like Reconnective Healing, I think it is a slightly different frequency to reiki and closer to what I was doing intuatively, plus it is extremely simple to learn and practice.  You are not meant to mix it with other modalities in a treatment, so I don't say I do a massage with a bit of Reconnective Healing, I just say a bit of energy work, but when I start waving my hands around something is coming through, and it is stronger since I did the RH course.  I found for reiki I had to shift to reiki mode, and it didn't have that much impact on what I was naturally doing, but RH added to what I was doing.

Reiki might be the best training for you, or it may not, there are a lot of different forms of energy work out there, and one of them will be right for someone.

I am level II Reiki, and have been attuned four times - two for each level.  The first attunment ($100), I felt very little. A sense of motion in the field around the body - but nothing in me. I got a second level one attunement ($50- under special circumstances - the attuner was a teenager!!) because the 1st one felt so little, and that attunment was very powerful-- bringing up many tears and emotion during the process, but again, not as much later. I did struggle with doubt about Reiki for many years. I went to level two training ($250) to see if I could "up my amperage".  A couple did it, so both attuned me in their separate ways. Again, the sessions were nice, but no quantum changes.

To continue from previous post  which cut off on me---- Several years after the attunments, and after reading much more about energy - and particularly after reading Quantum Touch  I found that breathwork really enhances energy - which I'll call reiki since that is what I'm starting with. On some occssions, I have been able to "freak people out" by telling them (total strangers) various interpretations that I sense in their energy fields about their personality or current unspoken feelings/thoughts. I have felt their emotions - basic ones like fear, withdrawal, loneliness, wariness, joy, contentment, love, groundedness, peace, and once even God's grace/forgiveness for the person on the table. Some clients see colors or images if they have imagination. About 2/3 feel the energy at some level - but some don't at all or are not open to. The energy informs my massage like anatomy does, so I know where to go, how long to stay, and where it refers. It is now integral to massage for me.

Hello,

I have been a Reiki Master for almost a year now, and have been attunded to Reiki for several years. One important thing to note, the energy is not coming from the practitioner. I never say that I healed a person, because the energy is not coming from me.

No one really truly understands how Reiki works, which makes it hard for anyone to understand. However if you understand that your body is an electrical conductor, and that everything around you is also made up of some type of energy, the concept is a little easier to comprehend. All matter is made up of vibrating atoms.

Reiki is litteraly the channeling of Universal Life force energy. The energy that is flowing helps realign our energy field creating well being. Massage works on the physical body, Reiki on the emotional and energy field.

Many diseases start in our energy field and our emotions. If you think of heartache for a moment, such intense sadness that we feel a tightness in our chest. That is an emotion triggering a dis-ease in our physical body. Also nervous stomach, that is also emotion manifesting in our physical body. If one does not release this sadness, this would eventually cause a dis-ease in our physical body.

Some people are sensitive to this energy, some people are not. Most frequently people heat or tingling from the practitioners hands. It is just a manifestation of the energy that is flowing.

Some people do not feel anything during the attunement process, others experinece memories, colors, tingling, tastes. It is a very individual experience.

Michelle... You may have some kind of energy block in your stomach area... did you drink a lot of water after the treatment. In this way it is just like a massage, important to drink lots of water to flush the toxins from the body. You may want to have that looked into, however there is a possiblity that the Reiki session may have facilitated the healing.

Yes it is possible to receive an attunment via distance work. My first attunment was via distance. My partner is beginning to offer these services, and I hope to be offering them myself soon too. For my own personal experince of Reiki... It has been wonderful. I did feel tingling all down my spine during the attunement process. Afterwards it was like seeing everying in a new light.  It has created a new path for me. It has enabled me to follow the path that I choose to be on. I was able to diminish the pain I felt (some still feel) from a car accident, and follow the path I choose to be on... namely massage. I have gained much self confidence and a joy for life. Reiki is a wonderful compliment to massage, great for assisting with really problem muscles.

What have you experienced with Reiki?

I also find that breathwork is important to my reiki process. As far as attunements, they can definitely be done by distance, as well as reiki treatments.

I have been attuned in Reiki I and II for 2 years.  The main use i find is in calming clients or ones that can't relax.  I do trigger point therapy and there are times clients start to react before I work on a spot.  If I just lay my hands and let the energy flow, they loosen right up.It should be relaxing and no rocking involced.  I have heard peolp say reiki was too much motion.  I want to knwo what sort of fakey-reiki they are pullingI have also experienced a reiki session.  I feel it , but don't know how to put it in words.

Fakey-reiki? A practitioner can channel reiki during other kinds of bodywork, so perhaps the client was getting a mixed-modality treatment and misunderstood where the reiki ended and the other technique(s) began. I've done "acu-reiki" before... the idea in acupressure being that one uses tapping or rubbing to put energy into the meridians... why not put reiki energy in?
